    Hi Dave,

Sometimes when ahurricane hits along thee Gulf of Mexico - like
Katrina in '05,it will come right up theMississippi and give us an unwelcome bath.. And spawn tornadoes. Eeeeeewwwww.

We were in Hawaii when that hit--but out there at one point one summer,
we had 5 hurricanes coming at us. There was enough ocean between us and them that they all fizzled out before hitting land.

Aren't Pacific hurricane called "typhoon" (from "tai fun" or"supreme wind")

They are, on the other side of the International Date Line. This side, they're still hurricanes.

    Oh. Okay.

Just one of those bits of trivia you pick up in some odd time/place. (G)

I can recommend "Typhoon" byJoseph Conrad for your reading pleasure.

Have to check it out, thanks.

It was a good read for me. Never got tedious or made me want to jump ahead.

I'll see if I can get it for my Nook; we're running short of book shelf
    space.

I have three Asus EEE PCs that I have picked up over the years. Mostly
I use them as jukeboxes - playing music while I work on something.

We had a couple of them at one point; Dale suggested them when we
thought Steve was going to be deployed. It was something easy to use
and with both of us having one, if I developed a problem, he could
trouble shoot. Turned out, he never deployed so we eventually moved on.
In 2020, we donated them (and others) to the school system so students
who were trying to learn remotely on phones could have something
    better.

Schools are finding that they need ban phones in the classrooms if
they want their pupils to learn.

True, but 5 years ago when everything was shut down tight and parents
wanted to have their children continue their learning, teaching thru
Zoom was really big. Some kids had no computers at home but a parent
might have a smart phone that the kid could use. Teachers quickly found
out that phone screens were not as good as PC screens so around here, a
lot of appeals were put out for used but still useable computers. We contributed the EEPCs (eeps's) and some others we had, after Steve
cleaned them up, put on some basic work programs, etc. Helped us (a bit
more room, soon to be replaced by radio equipment) and helped several
    kids learn better.

My Asus all use Linux for the OS. If I'm doing Zoom I'd rather use my
Lenovo Think/Idea Pad w/the built-in camera and microphone.

It's also handy if I am hospitalised. Since I network my Meal Monster
with the desktop tower my recipe bases are pretty much up to date.

Thanks, I need to get some new reading material on the Nook and Ken
Follette's new book isn't out yet.

I do get the listing but have never gotten anything thru them (yet). I'd probably not get cook books as I prefer hard copy for them. Just
unsubscribed from a web site of fig recipies when they tried (didn't
succeed because we don't do Windows) sending some malware instead of a
    recipe.

About the time I got my Nook, both you and a local friend reccommended
this site. I've browsed, but just not pulled the trigger yet, on any
    books.

I've used my tablet for Zoom. At the time, schools were scrounging
anything they could get so kids wouldn't have to rely on phones for
    connecting with their classes.

I'm not saving nearly as much as I was when I first got on the echo. Noe
    I look for something specific.
